Ah, tell our master, tell him plainly: / a speech like this, once spoken, cannot be undone.
We have seen the one whose kunya is al-Husayn, / the true brother of that towering, lofty-peaked honor.
He has brought forth praise that is utterly unlawful, / O son of the mountains of sublime, towering glory.
Are not rhymes the daughters of a man, / when the image of truth is untainted and unblemished?
Therefore, do not accept his eulogies at all— / for marriage with a brother’s daughters is forbidden.
Take this legal ruling from a jealous brother, / one who guards jealously over a magnificent lord.
And you are a folk such that whenever you are mentioned, / the one who mentions you cries out in weary relief.
By my life, neither the coarse woolen robe awaits you, / nor the white kitchen hearth.
