النص Poem text
I gave you a command, but you weakened it, and Ibn Abi Sarh opposed me.
You turned a blind eye in judgment with a deliberate squint, and saw no clear path in war.
How then did you find the rams of Iraq? Did they not butt our gathering with a single blow?
I suspect today has what follows it, and the appointed time between us is the morning.
If they charge at us tomorrow with the like of it, we shall be as al-Zubayr or Talhah.
And if they delay it for what comes after, they have already offered up chaos and a stinging blow.
The folk have already drunk the waters of the Euphrates, and al-Ashtar has saddled you with disgrace.
