النص Poem text
O my two companions, my greeting… blessed be the day of the wedding.
Blessed be yesterday, for it brought close a bounty that was far.
Blessed be the night of yesterday, in which my time flowed so harmoniously for me.
A night in which I attained from my shares of fortune that which healed me.
I do not praise it for the beauty of the musical performances.
Rather, I praise it for the beauty of my comfort in the company of so-and-so.
I kept on revelling until I imagined myself to be in the gardens of paradise.
While we were thus engaged, the two moons were escorted in.
O Zayyat, how beautiful are the hours of longing and hope.
They have stirred within my soul the memory of Sahir and 'Anan.
Were it not for my bad luck, I would have been none other than Ibn Hani.
O twin of my soul, poetry grew too narrow for the arrangement of congratulations.
Do not blame me if I called upon poetry and poetry disobeyed me.
My love for you, O Zayyat, towers far above the description of eloquent expression.
