Mohamed Bachir El Ibrahimi composed this rhythmic rajaz piece, titled 'Saj' al-Kuhhan,' to confront the devastating internal strife tearing Yemen apart. Rather than looking outward at foreign threats, the poet focuses his grief and anger inward, rebuking the country's own sons for allowing sectarian division and self-destruction to ravage their homeland. The poem shifts rapidly from mournful diagnosis to urgent, staccato commands, acting as a desperate wake-up call to a populace sleepwalking through its own ruin.

النص Poem text
Time grew harsh... upon Yemen
It swapped its sweet for bitter poison
An army of misery... lay in wait for it
Emaciated... amid the fat of the land
Plundered... without a price paid
Its constitution... do you even understand?
You refuse to read... you refuse to learn
Ask its sword... whose side are you on?
Ask its sword... in whose hand?
Ravens... gathered over old ruins
No helper... no trusted friend
Return to the sanctuary... O son of Yemen
Give blood freely... without boasting of it
If you will not defend it... then who will?
O noble lineage... where has Aden gone?
A soul that rebelled... against its own body
While it is the basin... and they are the palaces
The worst of creatures... have become its caretakers
The thorn of ruin... has sprouted within it
O you who wander far... do not drift away
O sluggish one... do not sit idly
O heedless one... do not sleep
O idle one... do not turn ascetic now
Do not stay away... but bear witness
Do not judge... unless you are ready to be judged
Do not press for wine... from an empty jar
Seeking true guidance... through cowardly truces
Fearing destruction... so choose eternal endurance
