سألتنا شرفَ نلبسهاخرقةَ القومِ على شرطِ الوفا

You asked us for an honor to wear: the patched frock of the folk, upon the condition of loyalty.

حين تابتْ عندنا من كل ماكان منها قبل هذا سلفا

When she repented before us for everything that had preceded her from her past.

فأجبناها لى ما سألتباعتقادٍ وودادٍ وصفا

So we answered her in what she asked, with conviction, pure affection, and clarity.

وأمرناها بأن تلبسهاكل من كان بخير عرفا

And we commanded her to bestow it upon everyone known for goodness.

هي لمّا لبستُها سبَّحتْحسبي الله تعالى وكفى

When I put it on, it praised God, declaring: God is my supreme sufficiency, and He is enough.

وأتتْ تلثم نعلي خدمةًولقد كان لنا فيه شفا

And she came to kiss my sandals in service, and indeed there was healing for us in it.

ولقد عانقتُ منها غُصناًيخجلُ الغصن ذا ما انعطفا

And I embraced a branch of her, which shames the bending branch when it sways.

وارتشفنا ريقةً مسكينةًتخجل الشَّهدَ ذا ما ارتشفا

And we sipped a humble saliva, which shames the pure honeycomb when it is tasted.

ما أتينا محرَماً نحذرهبل أتينا فيه ما الله عفا

We have not approached a forbidden thing to be feared, but rather what God has pardoned.

فانظروا المعنى الذي أرمزهفي كلامي تجدوه في الوفا
