The poor man wakes with all things set against him, while people close their doors against his face.
You see him treated as a criminal though he is innocent, facing hostility whose causes he cannot see.
Even the dogs, whenever they see someone in fine garb, wag their tails and greet him with delight.
Yet if they see a wretched beggar on another day, they snarl and bare their fangs at him.
