They taught him how to turn away, and so he turned—a tyrant from whom I have suffered more than enough.
Extravagant in his estrangement, he knows no end; could it be they taught him this excess?
They made my wakefulness before him a sin; would that my full moon knew the sin and pardoned it.
A branch of the ban-tree: whenever I chided it, tenderness made it bend, and so it bent.
And when I pictured him in my thoughts, my heart fluttered out of longing and yearned.
I keep vigil over the pact of passion, never sleeping while he breaks his vow to my loyalty.
A single appointment with him was granted me in life, yet before I could believe it true, he broke it.
